TWI Live with Alltak Tuning in Fortaleza Brazil

It was a party. It was a hands on demonstration. It was a collection of wrappers, with spouses and children all enjoying their love of being together… it was a TWI Live.

According to Justin Pate, founder of The Wrap Institute, the event was described this way… “TWI Live in Fortaleza in partnership with Alltak Tuning was simply a super fun wrap party this year. The concept behind every TWI Live event is to celebrate both the world of wraps and local installers and distributors. For the official wrap demos I worked with Dimas Brazil (TWI Trainer), Thiago (Alltak) and Luiz “alemão” (Luukfilm) who are considered the top installers and instructors in Brazil. The crowd was a mix of great Brazilian installers, family, distributors and other people who are involved in the wrap world. This mix, along with great burgers, drinks and a super tight live rock band made for a festive atmosphere to say the least. At the beginning of the event I had the idea to wrap the back window and let people sign it to tag the event. To see all those signatures at the end of the day was extra special. I can’t wait to do it again next year and big thanks to everyone from Alltak for making it happen and to Wrapper Mapper for taking such great pics as always.”

Huge thanks to the Alltak Tuning team and The Wrap Institute for having us out! It is always such a pleasure watching the wrap industry progress and come together around the world.

Keep your eyes open for the next TWI Live… maybe coming to a city near you… Until next enjoy this great re-cap video.

WRAP OLYMPICS 2019 WINNERS

Late, so late, to WRAPSCON 2019

I was late… really, really late this time.  My flight from Columbus started off just fine but a unwelcome surprise in Phoenix derailed the trip pretty quick.  “We regret to inform you that your flight to Long Beach has been canceled” is NEVER the text you want to recieve while sitting in the airport… CRAP.  Turns out that the airline had proactively re-booked me on another flight… YAY!  …But the flight was going to drop me off at a different airport. An airport an hour away from the convention center… CRAP again!

Still, after catching the new flight and grabbing an Uber driver willing to get me up the coast to Long Beach, I can make this work.  Forget checking in to the AirBNB and who cares that I was carting all my luggage and camera gear.  I told the driver to just drop me in front of the convention hall and let me jump out.  I finally arrived at WRAPSCON 2019!

From the second I stepped on the floor I felt I was home.  I honestly know that I am one of the most fortunate people in the world to able to earn a living in the wrap industry.  As I am fond of saying, this is the only industry where people pay us to color and play with cars.  We have amazing designers.  We have super cool projects.  We have brilliant tools and gadgets to work with.  We have the best people in the world.  We have #wrapfamily.

For those of who missed WRAPSCON this year you missed some great stuff.  Ruggs Kochevear and his amazing NBM team spent an entire year putting together a concentrated wrap experience for us.  Where else are you going to see industry greats doing demonstrations in practically every booth?  Where else are going to get Justin Pate and The Wrap Institute team giving talks and allowing anyone to try all the different films? The 3M booth was hustling alongside the KPMF, Orafol and Teckwrap teams. Hexis was running their super popular Wrap battle panels. Famous faces wrapping right in front of you from all over the world. Every single one of them willing to chat, show off a tool or discuss a technique… so cool.

Finally, let’s certainly not forget this year’s Wrap Olympics! A two-person team rolling head-to-head against another one. This unique competition format has the wrappers moving from cars to rough texture walls. Wrapping odd and difficult objects (a bowling ball AND pin this year). Live designing projects and working together to implement the film installation. We had some great teams from all over North America as well as Europe and Asia. The final winners by judges decision was the team “Aloha Hillbillies” made up of Shane Oliberos (Xero Wraps) and Charlie Trujillo (Lettering Express) who took home a massive amount of prizes.

As in year’s past the Wrap Olympic’s judging team was made up of Starla Miller (Miller Decals), Jen Carney (Carbon Wraps), Luis Tirado (WBC Graphics / BladeCage) and Keith Savage (Savage Wraps) and Adam Sumner (Wrapix Imaging) with the whole event MC’ed by everybody’s favorite bayou boy Kevin Kempf (PG Nola). A virtual ton of wrap industry knowledge and expertise in this group for sure.

So, late arrival aside, this year’s WRAPSCON was an event to remember and one you should NOT miss next year!

Grit, Grime, mutant skulls and sheer, no-holds-barred design, equals Alltak’s CAMBEA 2019!

You would absolutely be forgiven for wondering. What does dusty desert, leather, rusty metal and a head turning Mad Max theme have to do with wrapping? Well, as it turns out, quite a lot.

When Marcelo Souss and the Brazilian based Alltak Adhesivos team started planning the 2019 CAMBEA in São Paulo the idea was simply to go bigger and better than the 2018 success. Long time Alltak designer Allessandro de Campos was tasked with creating the vision which developed into a world-class wrapping showcase environment.

The winning formula? Start with a massive booth backdrop depicting a post-apocalyptic landscape, fabricate fully custom floors simulating a desert surface complete with sand scoured skulls and make every car in the competition match up with a rusty, spiky, patched-together scrounger of a vehicle. Mission accomplished and we have the photos to prove it!

The annual, 4 day wrap competition at FESPA Brasil, drew competitors from all over the county as well as wrapping hopefuls from neighboring Argentina and Chile. The judging team came in from all over the world to assist the Head Judge Eduardo Chardosim Stabel (Brasil). Judges included Multi-Year judge and wrap professional Mireille Van der Jagt (Pro Wraps – Netherlands), Dimas Brazil (DBS by Dimas Brasil – Brasil), Tim Evans (WrapperMapper – USA) with the entire event MC’ed by Marcos Schott (Banana Buffers – Brasil).

The event was rounded out by Live Wrapping demonstrations with daily custom designs by Joffrey Van der Jagt (Pro Wraps – Netherlands) and Alltak’s very own Thiago Sossai. The creativity and skill on display here every day was a sure crowd-pleaser.

All of these elements came together for a truly excellent show. Fun with costumes and a palpable sense of camaraderie among the competitors, while triumphs and failures were witnessed every single day.

Ultimately, after days of competitions and heart breaking eliminations, the Alltak CAMBEA 2019 crowned the team of WS Adhesivos as the final winning wrappers with the team from Genesis Envelopamento coming in just a tiny fraction of tiny 5 points behind them. Incredibly, incredibly close finish after so many days!

If you ever get a chance to experience an Alltak Adhesivos CAMBEA event it is highly, highly recommended!
