3 FREE “Wrapping in Place” videos from Justin Pate and The Wrap Institute

As the global economy continues to suffer under our current pandemic conditions the wrap industry is seeing some tough times.  What is amazing, and honestly wonderful to behold, are the various organizations and individuals who are stepping up.  First and foremost on their mind is “How can I help out?”, “What information do I have that may help another struggling wrapper?”, “What tools or film do I have that could help my competitor across town?” or simply taking some time to call, text or email in order to offer some encouraging words.

Just to name a few, we have seen John Duever with “Vinyl Images” regularly take the time to make inspiring videos and spend valuable time chatting with folks online in order to help.  Our very own multi-published author Dan Antonelli with “KickCharge Creative” has been kicking in with design tips, useful marketing strategies and COVID-19 resources.  World respected wrap trainer Justin Pate has been creating his very own “Wrapping in Place” series for free as he spends his time figuring out ways to continue his own personal mission of “Never Stop Learning”

So, if you are looking for a little inspiration or a little tip to keep those wrapping juices flowing here you go.  Courtesy of TWI you can enjoy a little fun practice for your downtime.

NEW Wrap Training Map!!!

Announcing the new Training Map starting for 2020!!! … because figuring out more ways to continue helping out the wrap industry, our fellow wrap shops and professional wrappers around the world is kind of what we do here at WrapperMapper.com.

“Where can I get a good solid training class in my area?” is a pretty common question for us and one that most professional wrap installers will have many times over their career.

Of course you can always have access to easy and reliable training when you sign up for The Wrap Institute online (use our discount code TWWRAPPERMAPPER for a great savings) BUT how awesome would it be to easily see where Justin is doing an actual live training class?  How about John Duever running an Avery SWI class, Adam Sumner doing 3M training at Wrappix or Rafal Zmuda doing a group session at The Wrap Center in Europe?

We are bringing it all together in one place.  Now you can easily check the new Training Map page and see what is available for this year!  We have tried to make it super easy to filter by training/skill level, focus on a specific film manufacture or look for a specialized organization.

Check out what we have so far and keep coming back as we continue to add wrapping classes across the globe!

Announcing TWI Endorsed Trainers!

The Wrap Institute is proud to announce our newest development – TWI Endorsed Trainers!

These days, finding the right wrap trainer and determining their qualifications can be difficult. If you spend a lot of money and time on a wrap course and get a poor training, it can instill bad habits, provide misinformation and be extremely frustrating.

TWI Endorsed Trainers are instructors who have been hand-selected because they fit criteria that exemplifies our slogan, Never Stop Learning™. Learning from or working with a TWI Endorsed Trainer means you will receive top-level instruction using the best methods possible, without influence from any outside brand, product or service. TWI Endorsed Trainers are always working to improve their craft using new techniques and tools as well as constantly modifying and enhancing their trainings to remain cutting-edge.

To be clear, these trainers do not teach workshops for The Wrap Institute. The Wrap Institute is supporting wrap film manufacturers by highlighting their best trainers, and helping installers worldwide find trusted resources for hands-on training.

TWI Live with Alltak Tuning in Fortaleza Brazil

It was a party. It was a hands on demonstration. It was a collection of wrappers, with spouses and children all enjoying their love of being together… it was a TWI Live.

According to Justin Pate, founder of The Wrap Institute, the event was described this way… “TWI Live in Fortaleza in partnership with Alltak Tuning was simply a super fun wrap party this year. The concept behind every TWI Live event is to celebrate both the world of wraps and local installers and distributors. For the official wrap demos I worked with Dimas Brazil (TWI Trainer), Thiago (Alltak) and Luiz “alemão” (Luukfilm) who are considered the top installers and instructors in Brazil. The crowd was a mix of great Brazilian installers, family, distributors and other people who are involved in the wrap world. This mix, along with great burgers, drinks and a super tight live rock band made for a festive atmosphere to say the least. At the beginning of the event I had the idea to wrap the back window and let people sign it to tag the event. To see all those signatures at the end of the day was extra special. I can’t wait to do it again next year and big thanks to everyone from Alltak for making it happen and to Wrapper Mapper for taking such great pics as always.”

Huge thanks to the Alltak Tuning team and The Wrap Institute for having us out! It is always such a pleasure watching the wrap industry progress and come together around the world.

Keep your eyes open for the next TWI Live… maybe coming to a city near you… Until next enjoy this great re-cap video.

WRAP OLYMPICS 2019 WINNERS

Late, so late, to WRAPSCON 2019

I was late… really, really late this time.  My flight from Columbus started off just fine but a unwelcome surprise in Phoenix derailed the trip pretty quick.  “We regret to inform you that your flight to Long Beach has been canceled” is NEVER the text you want to recieve while sitting in the airport… CRAP.  Turns out that the airline had proactively re-booked me on another flight… YAY!  …But the flight was going to drop me off at a different airport. An airport an hour away from the convention center… CRAP again!

Still, after catching the new flight and grabbing an Uber driver willing to get me up the coast to Long Beach, I can make this work.  Forget checking in to the AirBNB and who cares that I was carting all my luggage and camera gear.  I told the driver to just drop me in front of the convention hall and let me jump out.  I finally arrived at WRAPSCON 2019!

From the second I stepped on the floor I felt I was home.  I honestly know that I am one of the most fortunate people in the world to able to earn a living in the wrap industry.  As I am fond of saying, this is the only industry where people pay us to color and play with cars.  We have amazing designers.  We have super cool projects.  We have brilliant tools and gadgets to work with.  We have the best people in the world.  We have #wrapfamily.

For those of who missed WRAPSCON this year you missed some great stuff.  Ruggs Kochevear and his amazing NBM team spent an entire year putting together a concentrated wrap experience for us.  Where else are you going to see industry greats doing demonstrations in practically every booth?  Where else are going to get Justin Pate and The Wrap Institute team giving talks and allowing anyone to try all the different films? The 3M booth was hustling alongside the KPMF, Orafol and Teckwrap teams. Hexis was running their super popular Wrap battle panels. Famous faces wrapping right in front of you from all over the world. Every single one of them willing to chat, show off a tool or discuss a technique… so cool.

Finally, let’s certainly not forget this year’s Wrap Olympics! A two-person team rolling head-to-head against another one. This unique competition format has the wrappers moving from cars to rough texture walls. Wrapping odd and difficult objects (a bowling ball AND pin this year). Live designing projects and working together to implement the film installation. We had some great teams from all over North America as well as Europe and Asia. The final winners by judges decision was the team “Aloha Hillbillies” made up of Shane Oliberos (Xero Wraps) and Charlie Trujillo (Lettering Express) who took home a massive amount of prizes.

As in year’s past the Wrap Olympic’s judging team was made up of Starla Miller (Miller Decals), Jen Carney (Carbon Wraps), Luis Tirado (WBC Graphics / BladeCage) and Keith Savage (Savage Wraps) and Adam Sumner (Wrapix Imaging) with the whole event MC’ed by everybody’s favorite bayou boy Kevin Kempf (PG Nola). A virtual ton of wrap industry knowledge and expertise in this group for sure.

So, late arrival aside, this year’s WRAPSCON was an event to remember and one you should NOT miss next year!

Women of Wrap take over the Avery Dennison booth at SEMA 2018

If you attended SEMA in Las Vegas this year you were treated to a first-time ever, one-of-a-kind, wrap industry event.  Imagine a huge crowd of people gathered around a couple of amazing cars and discovering what most of us already in the industry know… we have some incredibly talented wrapping ladies!

This all began as an idea from Jen Carney (Carbon Wraps).  In her words… “I have wanted to put together an all female wrap team for years, as I’m sure others have as well. I figured there was no harm in asking, so I pitched the idea to Sarah and Patti at Avery Dennison who were immediately on board and excited. Justin Pate was gracious enough to lend us some time and booth space while Jofferey Van Der Jagt supplied a killer design.  The goal was to show the presence that women have in the industry though we don’t always claim the spotlight.  I wanted to highlight, hopefully encourage and help women gain confidence in their skills as they become more involved with wraps. I hope that we empowered women and men to build more teams together.”

With the original team of Kathy Alexander (Incognito Wraps), Kinsey Sharp (Sharp Wraps OKC) and Cindy Richards (Avery Dennison) the group was further bolstered by the events’s MC Starla Miller (Miller Decals) to add some spice and commentary.

Abby Monnot (Avery Dennison) said, “I am so proud of what these group of women are continuing to accomplish.  I’m even more proud they came to Avery Dennison with the idea and knew we would support them.  Being a woman in this industry, I got chills watching them install, because something like this was first of its kind.  I know a lot of them stepped out of their comfort zones to be featured in our booth and I am in awe of their courage.  I’m happy we were able to provide them the platform for their success.  This is what my job is all about.”

Cindy Richards added her thoughts by saying “I am just excited to have this kind of exposure for women in the industry. There are some amazing talents here and we were excited to give a platform. I hope this increases the number of women to stand up, be proud of what they do and empower them to showcase it.”

As an added twist, Chrissy Ross Walthour (IBOW), pitched in with another suggestion from the crowd… how about bringing in some of the wrapping pro ladies who are watching to add to the team?  With a little encouragement the booth was soon home to even more wrapping talent as the Women of Wrap swelled to include Brittany Banks (All City Wraps), Krystal Miszewski (Candy Wraps), Paige Walton (S6 Wraps) and Tasha Marohn (TM Motorsports Imaging).

Final result?  A super cool wrapped car with an even cooler showcase of the skill and talent the ladies in our industry possess.

CAMBEA (Brazilian Car Wrapping Championship) for 2018!

CAMBEA (Brazilian Car Wrapping Championship) opens today and has a lot of exciting news for its 8th edition. This year, the stage for this event will take place at the ExpoPrint Latin America trade show, the biggest printing event in Latin America, from March 20th to the 24th.

The winner of the tournament will compete at the World Wrap Master Series, which will take place this year in Berlin, Germany.

CAMBEA PRO – Professional Series with MC Marcos Schott and judges Eduardo Stabel , Mirreile Van Der Jagt (Pro Wrap Netherlands) and Tim Evans (Wrapper Mapper)

There will be 18 teams fighting for a place on the semifinals on the 3 first days, having the task of wrapping the side and the hood of a car within 1 hour 30 minutes.
6 teams will earn the right to move on to the semifinals on the 4th day, and only 3 will make it to the final on March 24th with the goal of wrapping the entire car within 5 hours.

Besides the main car wrapping competition, CAMBEA is also an incredible gathering event for the industry!  Car wrappers from all over Brazil get to meet, talk and celebrate with fun competition and educational segments created and sponsored by CAMBEA.

One of them is the CAMBEA FAST, known for being fun and accessible, as everyone can join. The mission is to wrap the hood of a car in the shortest time possible and try to break the current record of 4 min 35 sec held by Guilherme Martins.

The CAMBEA Arena at ExpoPrint will also have the CAMBEA Lab, where people can learn unique wrapping techniques with some of the greatest specialists of the sector. The American wrap guru Justin Pate, considered one of the biggest car wrapping specialists in the world, will present his highly refined wrapping technique honed throughout his 20 years of wrapping experience.

The CAMBEA’s organizer ALLTAK will also present the world famous Joffrey Van Der Jagt, the Dutch artist from ProWrap and known as the free style wizard, will be in Brazil to turn cars into real artwork with wrapping techniques.

The Best of all editions

Marcelo Souss, the event’s founder, states… “We want to make this one the best CAMBEA of all times, promoting the biggest wrapping event in Brazil with the best of the national wrapping scene. Everyone is so qualified, and the professional level has gotten so high, that we had to make some changes in the tournament’s regulations. I traveled all over the country this year, and the expectations are as high as possible. The interest in our market has been growing more and more which motivates us to do all of our best to pass on all the experience and information by creating an even better educational, motivational and cultural event each year. The event is a “must” for those who work in the wrapping segment.”

Wrap Industry Podcast Feature: The Wrap Pod

The Wrap Pod with Simon Polakof

It goes without saying that I absolutely LOVE seeing the wrap industry continue to grow!  We certainly saw 2017 as an awesome year but it looks like 2018 will continue that trend with several upcoming wrap business based videos, training, features and podcasts!

The first podcast to feature this year will be The Wrap Pod.  The Wrap Pod is the brain child of Sweden based Simon Polakof who debuted his program at the end of 2017 as he posted an excellent interview with global powerhouse and trainer Justin Pate of The Wrap Institute fame.  Simon and Justin had a thought provoking conversation ranging over various subjects from wrap history, wrap technique, behind the scene realities of shooting videos and even tips on wrap competition success.

I spoke with Simon about his new program and asked about his story in the wrap industry.  Here is Simon’s story in his own words…

I started my career in the graphics industry in 1995 helping dad in his one-man sign shop in Sweden mostly doing signs and window graphics part-time.  The opportunity to attend college, work doing part-time sales and managing a pizza shop pulled me away from the sign industry for several years, however, I returned to the sign industry in 2007 when the offer to take over my father’s shop was presented.  While it was important to keep the name CITYSIGN I proceeded to reinvent the entire business from the ground up.

As so many sign shop owners do, I spent several years wearing all of the hats from sales to design, production and application.  In 2011 I started to have more focus on vehicle decoration which lead to wraps and ultimately resulted in a large portion of our sales moving solidly into the fleet graphics side with new customers and larger jobs.  CITYSIGN continued to grow from the one-man shop to 2, then 4 and up until we are now currently at 11 associates working hard together.

I believe our secret to success began with being hungry, being dedicated and persistent in our choice to focus solely on wraps.  Today CITYSIGN delivers wraps all over Sweden and well as Coppenhagen (Denmark) with our team focus being awesome design, great customer service and and top-notch wraps for our “super-combo”.

The podcast itself is my way of giving back to the industry.  I love the wrapping business and want it have a prosperous future.  I believe we need to continue raising the bar and, by putting out interesting interviews, I hope to be a helping hand in that goal.

A little sneak peek for those listening in… Upcoming guests include: Nick Caminiti (Exotic Graphix – Australia), Scott Kepple (Skepple -USA), Jonas Sjöström (BS dekor – winner of the World Wrap Master 2017 – Sweden)

Check out The Wrap Pod here and subscribe to listen to all of the upcoming interviews!

The Wrap Institute

We are very pleased to announce that the WrapperMapper.com has been added to the industry’s premiere wrap training site The Wrap Institute.

For those in the wrap game you will recognize the name Justin Pate as one of the world’s best vehicle wrap installers and trainers.  Justin has spent years traveling the world teaching, coaching and training wrap installers in all aspects of wrap work.  In an excerpt from his bio “…Over his 17-year career, Justin has wrapped over 3000 vehicles, the majority of them by himself.  By closely studying the vehicle graphic installation process, Justin has created a highly efficient installation platform he calls UGIS: Universal Graphic Installation System. With this system, installers can learn how to wrap vehicles in significantly lower times than the industry average with higher quality and durability. UGIS is the basis for the workshops Justin teaches throughout the world and has been officially endorsed by Avery Dennison in North America.”  Justin’s skills are well known and his desire to further improve the application standards and skills of applicators continues to this day.  We are are proud to be a part of his continuing work.
